$5,000 Scholarship for Public Key Infrastructure Training to be Awarded
PORTLAND, Ore., May 15, 2018 — The increase in cyber attacks and data breaches across the country has made cybersecurity one of today’s hottest careers. Yet, a lack of awareness of the field is preventing students from pursuing cybersecurity as a career path, according to a recent ProtectWise survey that found that only 9% of millennials are interested in cybersecurity. NW Cyber Camp and its supporters, including title sponsor PacStar, are actively making an impact on high school students by introducing them to cybersecurity with a hands-on immersive camp. NW Cyber Camp 2018 is a week-long summer camp that teaches students how to defend computer systems and networks from cyber attacks, breaches, and malware. Now in its third year, the camp has grown to five locations throughout Oregon. Registration is now open for camps that will be held July 16 through July 20, 2018: https://www.nwcyber.camp/register/
“Collectively, we need to start training the next generation of cybersecurity experts. It begins with support and immersive learning experiences to get students excited and empowered about technology,” said Charlie Kawasaki, chief technical officer at PacStar and co-founder of NW Cyber Camp. “Now in our third year, we are thrilled to expand the number of camps and reach more students.”
All camps will feature leading industry professionals and cybersecurity educators, who will focus on cybersecurity techniques to help students gain confidence, learn valuable skills, and prepare them for a future career in technology. Industry experts from Cylance, Facebook, Galois, Intel, McAfee, Oregon Health Science University, PacStar, PKI Solutions, Redhawk Network Security, Salesforce, Splunk and other companies will be speaking at the camp. The girls-only camp session will feature women instructors and guest speakers.
Select Student to be Awarded $5,000 Scholarship for In-Depth PKI Training
To support and fuel students’ interest in cybersecurity, NW Cyber Camp Sponsor PKI Solutions Inc. will award a $5,000 scholarship for in-depth Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) training to a student selected from this year’s NW Cyber Camp. The scholarship will pay for a motivated student to attend an intensive Microsoft PKI training course provided by Mark B. Cooper, known as “The PKI Guy,” a leading expert in this field. The course has a strong emphasis on security, best practices, hands-on skills labs, and the opportunity to network with cybersecurity professionals from around the world.
“We are very pleased to award a special scholarship again this year for the NW Cyber Camp. This award will allow one very motivated student to learn more about PKI and the best ways to make computer systems more secure,” said Mark B. Cooper, president and founder of PKI Solutions. “It’s an exciting time for these student as they are on the cusp of determining their possible future careers. Cybersecurity is one of the hottest and most needed career paths right now.”
